On Friday 4th June 2021, the Federal Government of Nigeria announced the indefinite suspension of Twitter’s operations in Nigeria.
This is after the recent ban on cryptocurrency in Nigeria two months ago.
This came as shocking news to Nigerians, precisely its youth. The statement made by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, and signed by his media aide Segun Adeyemi, read as follows: “The Federal Government has suspended indefinitely the operations of the microblogging and social networking service Twitter in Nigeria”.
This was after Twitter deleted tweets of the Nigerian President after it violated its abusive behaviour policy, and suspended his official account for 12 hours allowing it to be in a “read-only mode”.
